  perhaps one of the most innocuous of the "pagan" holidays witnesses are taught to avoid is the american holiday .

  of thanksgiving.

  without going into the thanksgiving story, if there is one, be assured that jw children steadfastly.

  Of course. Our family was the super spiritual pioner/elder concoction, of course we did Thanksgiving, we were taught to logic that 'it was just turkey and mashed pots and cranberry sauce and all the trimmings, what else would we have with turkey. . .so everyone's off work, when would we invite 20 of our closest friends over-when they're AT work?'

  Shunning is Officially Psychological Torture!!

  i found an interesting article in the wikipedia encyclopedia.

  it actually states that "shunning" is used as a method of psychological torture.. psychological torture is less well known than physical torture and tends to be subtle and much easier to conceal.

  in practice the distinction between physical and psychological torture are often blurred.

  Would Witnesses Kill If Ordered? Probably!

  as a functioning cult, would jehovah's witnesses kill someone, if ordered?

  i believe that many would.. while some might think this is farfetched, i can cite some examples that manifest a lack of concern.

  for the lives of others, that could easily be extended into murder or manslaughter.. 1) forcing older brothers into jobs at bethel that were far too strenuous for them - as a means of.

  NO kidding. Great points, great topic. After seeing parents and sisters and bros turn on family with such hatred--besides the shunning, I believe they would do anything WTS ordered them to.

  So...I got duped today!

  i am one of those people who always gives money to those who ask me on the street.

  the reason is because there was a time when i was a kid that my siblings and i needed to beg on the street for food money because mom and dad were both addicts.. anyway, i was on my way into walmart and a lady stopped me and asked if i could give her a few dollars ($5 to be exact) so that she could pick up a prescription for some medicine.

  she explained that she and her kids have been sick with bronchitis and although the kids were better she was not and had run out of money until her check came on the first of the month.. i can also sympethize with having to wait for government checks to buy what you need having grown up on state welfare programs and i reasoned that $5 is nothing for me and my husband because combined we bring in over six figures a year income.

  I feel like the first rule of self-defense applies here, and that is to recognize that if a stranger gets near and cozy enough to ask me a question, he or she is about to do something bad.

  I learned this when I was 7, in the second grade and walking home from school through a park--my mom's rule was to always pick me up from school, with the exception of every f*cking day when she was out in field service in the afternoon--so here I am in the middle of the park and this older kid asks me for the time, I jumble around with my violin case and my jacket while he grabbed me and put his hands down my pants.
